In this six week PST program I chose the two strategies I did which were Self talk and Goal setting. I chose to focus on these two strategies because I felt in the meeting when I spoke with my client and her parents they were the key factors that she needed help and focusing on. I felt that we needed to focus on goal setting because it is a big factor in sport and been able to succeed. I felt that if she had no goals then she would not be motivated to do well and get further and more better in her sport. I know this from my previous sporting career because I was never motivated until I had goals I wanted to reach. We both agreed that goal setting would be a good strategy to focus on because she said that she had never really thought about setting goals before. I also chose to focus on Self talk because when dealing with previous clients it has helped to motivated and for them to be more confident before and after competing. I firstly told her what self talk was as she had never heard of it before and when I told her about it she sounded interested and wanted to give it a go therefore we tried it out. The self talk was successful because this helped her to be more confident in herself. We chose to focus on self talk for three Weeks because we felt as if this was a good enough time frame to be able to introduce it into her training and competing schedule. We also thought that it would help her to be more confident therefore when it comes to races she will be more motivated to succeed and wont be worrying about what other people think about her as that is not very nice and it makes people doubt themselves. If I could do this again I would try and focus on doing more sessions in the weeks I had and maybe try and increase how many weeks I had to spend with the clients as it all goes too quickly. Also the more time i have to help them the better they will become.
I didn't choose to focus on imagery because I think that the two strategies I chose focussed more on improving motivation and focused more on her sport. Also her sport is quite tough so I think it was good that I didn't choose imagery because i don't think it would have made her improve in her sport whereas the ones I chose did help.

Post 8 Overview of the 6 week PST
In week one I started of with a meeting with my sports performer because I thought this was a good way of finding out what my sports performer is like. Also it helped me find out what she needed to improve on and what her parents thoughts were about her training and competitions. In the meeting I also did a SWOT analysis to figure out my clients strengths and weaknesses. I chose too look at goal setting and self talk to help to motivate my client as from the meeting I found that they were key factors that were stopping her from been able to succeed. In week one I did a 1 hour session on a Tuesday night we sat down and we were choosing short term goals, middle term goals and long term goals to suit her sport and her standard. In the second week we sat down and we spoke about self talk. We then got these songs together and created a play list and put them on an ipod for her to listen to atleast an hour before she raced. In week three we progressed the session on goal setting. In this session we were focusing on swimming technique and giving different techniques for her to try so we could try and get her to reach her goal. We also in this session analysed the performer by doing video analysis and when she had finished we both sat down and spoke about both of our thoughts on how she was progressing. In week four we focused on self talk. This session was one hour long and we focused on getting quotes and songs together and created a play list and put them on an ipod for her to listen to at least an hour before she raced. This would help to motivate her as they will be inspirational speeches. In week five we entered her into a competition. We did this too see if she could achieve her goal and we also videoed the race so we could look back on her strengths and weaknesses. We also wanted to do the competition so if we thought the goal/goals we had set her were to easy we could go back and strengthen them. In week six we also did a competition and in this competition was the first time she listened to her personal ipod before racing. We did this to see if it motivated her and gave her more confidence before she raced. And after the race we sat down and spoke about how she felt before the race and if she felt better listening to things before her race or worse so we knew if it worked or not.
